240th

Lineage and Honors Statement

The 240th Quartermaster Company was constituted 22 April 1943 in the Army of the United States as the 240th Quartermaster Depot Company.  It was activated 25 May 1943 at Vancouver Barracks, Washington.

 After serving with distinction in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, the unit was inactivated 3 August 1946 in Germany.  The unit was redesignated on 23 April 1948 as the 240th Quartermaster Base Depot Company and allotted to the Organized Reserve Corps and activated 11 May 1948 at Atlanta, Georgia.

 In October 1953 the unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 240th Quartermaster Company.

  On 1 October 1955 in Atlanta, Georgia, the unit was inactivated.  On 7 February 1967, the unit was redesignated as the 240th Supply and Service Company and concurrently withdrawn from the Army Reserve and allotted to the Regular Army.

 On 25 March 1967, the unit was activated at Fort Knox, Kentucky then inactivated on 18 December 1967. 

The 240th Supply and Service Company was activated again on 21 December 1972 in Germany.

 The unit was redesignated on 16 May 1991 as the 240th Quartermaster Supply Company. 

 

     The 240th Quartermaster Supply Company has Campaign Participation Credits from World War II, European, Africa & Middle East Theater and the Rhineland Campaign.  In Southwest Asia, Defense of Saudi Arabia, Liberation and Defense of Kuwait, Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.

 

The 240th Quartermaster Supply Company deployed soldiers in support of Operation Restore Hope-Somalia and Rwanda in 1994

 

The 240th Quartermaster Supply Company deployed soldiers in support of Operation Joint Endeavor-Bosnia 1995 - 1996.

 

In the March 2003, the 240th Quartermaster Supply Company deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  During the RSO&I process the unit was staged at Camp Victory until late March 2003 when the unit crossed the Line of Departure into Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The unit was deployed from March 2003 – March 2004 supporting Coalition Joint Task Force 7 (CJTF-7) forces operating north of Baghdad at Logistics Support Base Anaconda, Balad, Iraq.  The company supported over 250 units consisting of over 35,000 soldiers with Class I, II, III(P) & (B), IV, VI, VII, and purified water.  

  

            On 19 January 2005, 240th Quartermaster Supply Company deployed in support of Operations Iraq Freedom III at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Seitz where they were part of the 1st Corps Support Command (Airborne) and the 46th Logistical Task Force operating in Baghdad, Iraq.  The unit safely provided direct support (DS) Class I and (GS) Class III Bulk, A/DACG, and Cargo Transfer Point operations to units consisting of over 36,000 Soldiers operating in the Task Force Baghdad AOR and the Victory Base Complex.

 

On 17 June 2008, the 240th Quartermaster Supply Company deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09 where they were part of the 316th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) operating on LSA Anaconda. The unit provided force protection for the LSA, Mortuary Affairs support, and ran the CIF, CL II, CL IX, and Multiclass warehouses, and also the only FRP operated by the U.S. Military.
